About Precision Genetics
Precision Genetics is not only a diagnostic laboratory, we are a healthcare technology company with years of experience in the employee wellness space. We are able to deploy the same logistics and methods to employee wellness to get both students and employees back to school and work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amongst our team of expert scientists, doctors, engineers, and finance strategists are former college student athletes that understand how important it is to remain healthy before, during and after the athletic season. We want to make sure you all feel as safe as possible during this time.
On April 3, 2020, Precision Genetics validated the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) via the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to process COVID-19 test kits. Precision Genetics is now available to support state and local healthcare systems in need of public health surveillance and has priority access to test reagents from commercial reagent manufacturers which have received EUA from the FDA.
How It Works
Our drive up service is designed for your scheduling needs – last minute travel plans, school requirements, return to work requirements, and many more. Scheduling a test is quick and easy:
Fill Out The Registration Form
By registering for a test, you secure a testing time where you can drive up and have a sample taken for testing. The registration form asks all the necessary questions for our laboratory to process the sample but also to report any positive results to the appropriate state Department of Health.
Drive to Our Location
On the day of your test, follow detailed driving instructions to the Precision Genetics office, located at 1 Marcus Drive, Suite 104 in Greenville, South Carolina. Once you are there, you will call our testing coordinator at 864-501-4437 to let her know you have arrived. Please arrive at least 5 minutes early to your appointment. Our nurse will collect your payment and administer the test.
Get Results Within 24-Hours
The processing of the sample into our laboratory system, PCR laboratory processing and report review and generation takes roughly half a day. This means that you will be able to receive your sample in less than 24-hours. We can guarantee same day results for anyone who arrives prior to 2 PM. After 2 PM, guarantee results by noon the next day.
We are running a real-time PCR test to detect the presence of COVID-19 in your sample. Nucleic acid extraction from Saliva or NP collection media using the KingFisher Flex Extraction with MagMax™ Viral/Pathogen Nucleic Acid Isolation Kit for viral RNA extraction followed by reverse transcription and real-time PCR using the QuantStudio 12K Flex PCR with TaqPath COVID-19 Combo Kit. Ct analysis to identify the presence or absence of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) RNA.
Once we receive the samples in the lab, we will return the results to you in 24-48 hours. Our average turn around time is 16 hours, however, if your appointment is at an hour when we have received a bulk of samples, the test can take longer than 24-hours to process. We will have the results to you no longer than 48 hours after the sample is collected.
It is thought to spread mainly from person to person, mainly through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. Spread is more likely when people are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet). It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about this virus.
The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading very easily and sustainably between people. Information from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic suggests that this virus is spreading more efficiently than influenza, but not as efficiently as measles, which is highly contagious.
A positive result means you have the COVID-19 virus. You must follow the CDC guidelines for quarantining while infected with the virus. Any positive sample will be reported to the state Department of Health for tracking and follow up.
When you register for a test, you will be emailed a credit card authorization form to be filled out and returned to Precision Genetics either via email prior to your test being performed or when you drive up for your test.
The results will be delivered via encrypted email to the email you provide in the registration form. If your results are negative, you will simply just receive the email. If your results are positive, you will be contacted by a physician to review necessary treatment advice. Precision Genetics is responsible for reporting any positive results to the necessary state Department of Health.
When you arrive, you will call our collection supervisor to let him/her know you have arrived. You will stay in your car and the collection specialist will come to your car to collect your sample.
Precision Geentics has 2 options for collecting the COVID-19 sample for PCR testing:
- Nasopharyngeal (NP) Swab – we have received EUA from the FDA for this test. It is quick and highly accurate and will take no longer than 2 minutes to collect.
- Saliva – we have received EUA from the FDA for this test. It is a sample that is collected by spitting into a vial. The test can take up to 15 minutes to collect depending on how well you can produce saliva to fill the vial up to the 1mL mark. The test is highly accurate and less invasive than a NP test.
There are many health systems in the area that can help with drive up testing and quick turn around time. Please go to a facility that is convenient for your needs.
If you have further questions, please email Allyson.Way@precisiongenetics.com or call 877-654-6544 ext. 5. However, if you are looking to schedule a test immediately, please fill out the form below. After you have submitted the form, you will receive an email from our testing team to secure an appointment.
